Black Hole

Black Hole

Learn how to make this cool lava vortex technique.

Hit D to reset your colors to black and white, and then hit Alt + Backspace to fill your
background layer with black.

Click on the Channels Tab in the layers palette to switch over to the Channels Palette.

Click on the New Channel Button:
Using the Rectangular Marquee tool to select the right half of the image, use the grid to
make sure your selection is exact.

Hit Ctrl + Backspace to fill the selection with white. Then hit Ctrl + D to deselect.

Go to Filter>Stylize>Wind...

use these settings:

Method: Wind
Direction: From the Right.

After you hit ok hit Ctrl + F twice to repeat the filter.

Go to Image>Rotate>Rotate Canvas 90 degrees CCW.

Go to Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates...
use these settings:
Rectangular to Polar: Checked

Go to Filter>Distort>Twirl...
use these settings:
Angle: 150

Go to Filter>Brush Strokes>Spatter...
use these settings:
Spray Radius: 15

Go to Filter>Distort> Ocean Ripple...

Ripple Size: 11
Ripple Magnitude: 5

Hold Ctrl and click on the Alpha 1 layer to load its selection.

Go back to the Layers Pallete, pick out a pure red color from the color picker, then make
a new layer.

Fill the selection with the red you chose by hitting Alt + Backspace

Hit D to reset your colors then make a new layer, this time when you hit Alt +
Backspace
it will fill the selection with black.

Make sure you are still on the layer you filled with black, and select the Move Tool.
In the top left corner there is an option that says "Show Bounding Box" make sure this is
Checked.

Using the move tool shrink the black layer (Make sure you hold shift so the proportions
are constrained) and rotate it 45 degrees.

Then hit Ctrl + E to merge the two layers together.

Make a copy of the newly merged layer and shrink and rotate it. Just like you did in the
previous step.

Make several copies of this layer and make them bigger and smaller, and remember too
rotate them too. Also make sure the layers are in order from smallest on top to largest on
bottom.

You should eventually end up with something similar to this.

Cool eh!

Give it a try and do experiment to create something different....that's the key to learn photoshop..
